Shenendehowa board certifies budget vote, swears in newly elected member

Dr. Turner said the certification allowed the board to seat the elected member after a midyear appointment (Patrice King) had filled the vacancy until voters decided the seat. She also acknowledged district staff and student achievements, including a recent signing day for 54 student athletes.
Board staff presented exit‑poll data from the public vote: 2,535 voters participated (up from 2,258 the prior year) and 82% of exit‑poll respondents indicated they voted in favor of the budget. The district also reported the bus resolution passed among voters and that approximately 75% of those voters supported it; respondents listed maintaining program quality, strong staff and rigorous curriculum as top priorities.
Board members encouraged outreach to increase voter turnout in future budget votes and noted the district is planning multi‑year budget and infrastructure work to support electric bus adoption, including charging infrastructure and potential use of grant funds to offset vehicle costs.
The board also approved routine consent and action items during the meeting, including purchase contracts and staffing motions.
Next steps: the board will move forward with the certified budget actions and the district will continue stakeholder outreach to raise participation in future votes.
