Bowling Green approves $3.03 million rebuild of Paul Walker Golf Course pro shop

The Bowling Green Board of Commissioners on April 21 approved a purchase order of $3,026,041 to Sunbelt Construction Inc. to reconstruct the Paul Walker Golf Course pro shop and clubhouse.
City staff said the project is part of the FY2026 capital improvement program and will replace an almost-century-old facility with a new clubhouse, pro shop, cart barn, patio and public restrooms. The plan includes connecting the building to city sewer for the first time and repurposing existing limestone facade material in exterior landscaping. Parks staff emphasized the facility will serve park users and provide upgraded public restrooms.
Construction timeline: staff stated the contractor’s timeline is 43 weeks from notice to proceed, but demolition and asbestos testing must happen first before that clock begins; staff and contractors said they anticipate the facility to be rebuilt in time for the 2027 golf season. Parks Director Brent Belchure said temporary trailers will provide pro shop services while construction occurs and the course itself will remain open.
Commission discussion focused on site preparation and preserving facade stonework. Commissioner questions sought clarification of the schedule; staff noted pre-demolition activities and environmental testing are required before full work can begin. The commission voted unanimously to award the contract.
Project funding and oversight are part of the adopted FY26 capital budget; staff named Parks and the capital projects team as implementation leads and said they will coordinate public notices for temporary facilities during construction.
