Marshall board approves $1 million salary package increase, insurance changes and multiple purchases

"This is an increase to our employee salary package overall of $1 million more than we spent in the current year," Superintendent Pettit said as he presented certified and classified salary schedules, extra‑duty stipends and benefits changes tied to the new package. The board approved the certified and classified schedules and the extra‑duty stipend schedule by voice vote.
Board members also approved the monthly financial reports and bills. A board member commended finance staff for clear reporting: "They did a really good job of explaining what each one was for," a member said, thanking staff named in the packet for improving transparency.
On benefits, the board approved an insurance renewal that district officials said increases employee premiums by roughly $90 each and represents about a 12% increase overall; the district raised its contribution to cover part of the rise. The board moved to approve the minimum district‑paid insurance amount by voice vote.
The board authorized two transportation purchases. Members approved a half‑size shuttle bus (14 passengers) at $98,400 to reduce fuel use and an approximately $115,000 2024 Blue Bird long bus (about 30,000 miles) that will be paid from next fiscal year funds; two older buses will be sold to make room. The shuttle bus motion was moved and seconded by board members and passed by voice vote; the long bus purchase was moved by Jack Lenz and seconded by Mrs. Staley.
The board also approved a 2026–27 food service contract renewal with Santa Fe and set student meal prices for 2026–27 with no increase for students (high school $2.45, middle school $2.40, elementary $2.35). District charges for food‑service reporting were quoted at $3.66 per lunch and $2.32 per breakfast for next year, as required for DESE filings.
The meeting concluded business before the board voted to enter closed session to discuss legal and personnel matters.
