Aurora council approves administrative search-warrant ordinance, appointments and event permits

The Aurora City Council on May 28 approved several routine measures and an ordinance expanding municipal code-enforcement tools. Council adopted Ordinance 2024-3325 (second reading) to add an administrative search-warrant process for municipal code matters such as tall grass or properties where entry has been refused; staff said jurisdiction for those warrants rests with the municipal court and that the procedure is authorized by state statute.

Council also passed Resolution No. 2024-1975 to authorize annual records disposal under Missouri record-retention statutes, and approved Resolution No. 2024-1976 appointing Linda Barton to the Planning and Zoning board. The council approved three mutual-aid/automatic-aid agreements with neighboring departments (Monette, Aurora Rural, Mount Vernon) to improve reciprocal response and support the city's ISO rating.

The council approved several special-event applications: the Aurora Branch Library Fourth of July parade (moved to July 2), the park-board hydrant party with downtown activities (live music, food truck, bingo and tricycle races), an Engaged Church barbecue on June 9, and Engaged Church’s Aug. 4 10-year anniversary with a short Madison Avenue street closure. Staff said there were no management objections and that police and fire would be present for events that require public-safety presence.

The council approved the consent agenda (minutes and May appropriations) earlier in the meeting and completed a roll-call vote to enter closed session later in the evening under RSMo 610.021 for legal and personnel matters.
