Gulfport mayor announces searchable 'action minutes' and video indexing for council meetings

Gulfport Mayor Karen Love announced that the city clerk has begun producing "action minutes" that are indexed to the meeting agenda, allowing residents to jump directly to the portion of the council video that corresponds to any agenda item. "She's actually indexing the minutes according to how they are on the agenda," Love said.

The change replaces the clerk's earlier practice of publishing abbreviated minutes that could reflect a single recorder’s interpretation, Love said, and is designed to make the record clearer and more precise. "You're going to be jumped right to that," she said, describing how a viewer can click an agenda item such as the Pledge of Allegiance, an ordinance or a discussion item and be taken to that exact moment in the recording.

The mayor directed residents to the city's website (mygulfport.us) to access the indexed videos and said the feature lets people "hear who said what" for themselves rather than relying on a condensed textual summary. Love acknowledged complaints from some residents about having to watch entire meetings, and said the agenda-linked indexing addresses that concern by letting viewers skip to the part they want to see.

The announcement concluded with an invitation to the next meeting: "I hope that you will join us again next Tuesday at 02:00," Love said.

The change is procedural and affects how meeting records are presented online; Love framed it as an effort to improve transparency and reduce interpretive errors in the minutes. No formal vote or ordinance was introduced in this brief announcement.
