Broken Bow council ratifies union contract, adopts spending-limit resolution

The City of Broken Bow City Council on July 26 approved a union contract and a resolution that sets department spending limits and approved the consent agenda, including $197,237.93 in vendor payments and payroll.
Mayor Rod Sonnichsen called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. in the Broken Bow Municipal Auditorium. The council recited the Pledge of Allegiance, the mayor announced the availability of the open meetings law and explained the procedure for submitting requests for future agenda items.
The council moved to approve the consent agenda, which included the minutes of the June 12, 2022 council meeting, bills as posted and the May treasurer’s report. Council member Larry Miller made the motion, David Schmidt seconded, and the motion carried on a roll-call vote with all members voting aye.
The meeting record itemizes payments to a list of vendors and bi-weekly payroll; the total for posted bills and payroll is recorded as $197,237.93.
In substantive action, the council approved a union contract that will take effect Oct. 1, 2022, and run through Sept. 30, 2025. The motion to approve the contract was made by David Schmidt and seconded by Larry Miller; the council recorded the vote as unanimous.
The council also adopted Resolution 2022-9, which establishes spending limits for department foremen, department heads and the city administrator while excluding the library trust, "per state statute." The motion for the resolution was moved by David Schmidt and seconded by David Baltz and passed unanimously.
Chris Myers moved to adjourn; David Baltz seconded and the council adjourned at 6:09 p.m. The meeting minutes record Danil Schile and David Schmidt in the signature/attestation block and list Kandi Handi as city clerk.
