Salton Community Services District President Michael Friese and the board voted unanimously Jan. 21 to award the Desert Shores Soccer Park Phase 2 contract to Mariposa Landscape Inc. for $76,303.03.
Kristine Hermann presented the bidding results to the board, saying, “We received two sealed bids: Mariposa Landscape bid $76,303.03, while LZ Construction initially bid $113,000.00 (later revised to $111,500.00 after removing the stump removal).” She told the board that an addendum changed the licensing requirement to a C27 (irrigation) license and that tree stump removal was excluded from the project package.
Hermann reported that LZ Construction does not hold a C27 license and therefore was not a qualified bidder under the addendum’s terms. Based on those factors, staff recommended awarding the contract to Mariposa Landscape Inc. Director Manuel Ramos moved to award the project; Vice President Oscar Ramirez seconded the motion. A roll-call vote recorded five votes in favor and no dissent, approving the award 5-0.
The board directed staff to prepare the contract for Mariposa Landscape Inc. using the same terms employed for Phase 1 of the project. The agenda packet noted the project advertisement ran in the Desert Sun and Imperial Valley Press and on Riverside and Imperial counties’ websites; those outreach steps were described by Hermann during her report.
Next steps include drafting and executing the contract and proceeding with the work under the specified scope; the board did not discuss a start date in the meeting.
Proper names and authorities referenced during the discussion included Desert Shores Soccer Park Phase 2, Mariposa Landscape Inc., LZ Construction, Desert Sun, Imperial Valley Press, Riverside County and Imperial County.
