Volo trustees award tree‑pruning contract, agree permit fees should cover external review costs

The Village of Volo Board of Trustees on Jan. 20 unanimously approved routine minutes and bills, awarded a multi‑year village‑wide tree‑pruning contract to Accent Landscaping and agreed to revise certain building permit fees to cover external plan‑review and inspection costs.
Trustee Porter moved to approve the minutes of the Dec. 16, 2025 regular meeting; Trustee Heuser seconded and the motion carried on a voice vote. Later, Trustee Porter moved and Trustee Komas seconded authorization to pay the bills listed in the Treasurer’s Reports for Jan. 6 and Jan. 20, 2026; a roll‑call vote showed Trustees Wagner, Porter, Heuser, Buttita and Komas voting “aye.”
On a separate motion, Trustee Wagner moved and Trustee Porter seconded to waive the formal bidding process and award a multi‑year contract for village‑wide tree pruning to Accent Landscaping. The board approved the contract by unanimous roll‑call vote.
During discussion of miscellaneous building permit fees, board members said fees should be set to recover the actual cost of plan review and inspection services provided by HR Green and should not include an added markup for in‑house permit processing or administration. The board also agreed that fees for emergency repair or replacement of hot water heaters, furnaces and air conditioners would remain unchanged.
Trustee Wagner provided a brief update on the Economic Development Committee. Trustee Buttita stated he attended the Lake County Municipal League legislative breakfast. Mayor Stephen Henley said his State of the Village presentation to the Chain O’Lakes Chamber of Commerce was well received.
With no further business, Trustee Porter moved, Trustee Wagner seconded, and the board adjourned at 6:35 p.m. The board did not specify dollar amounts for the tree‑pruning contract or any change in fee schedules during the meeting.
