The Ennis City Commission approved a resolution establishing a charter review committee to examine the city’s home‑rule charter and recommend proposed amendments. The proposed committee will include three commissioners (the mayor and two other commissioners) and two resident members; Kathy Morales and Wade Hall were nominated and approved by the commission.
City staff said the charter, originally adopted in 1913 and amended in prior years (1969, 1978, 1981 and 2016), benefits from periodic review and that the committee will be supported in an advisory capacity by representatives from the city manager’s office, city secretary’s office and the city attorney. The commission voted to appoint the nominated residents and the motion carried.
Commissioners noted the committee’s work is important to cleaning up and updating charter language and thanked the appointees for their willingness to serve.
