ZBA approves sign panel swap at 40 Route 17K for Ford tenant

James Polinsky, representing Signs Ink and the tenant at 40 Route 17K, told the Zoning Board that the proposal is a replacement panel — "it's not a larger sign, it's a smaller sign" — to reflect the Ford dealer's change in brands. Polinsky said the new panel will remain on the existing footing, use internal illumination and reduce the sign-box dimensions slightly.
Chairman Darrin J. Scalzo and other board members asked about illumination and visibility; Polinsky responded that the lighting and Lexan covering would be the same and would not materially change candle power. No members of the public spoke during the hearing.
Counsel and staff confirmed the replacement qualifies as a Type II action under the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA). After reviewing the five area-variance factors, board member James C. Politi moved to approve the requested variances; Greg M. Hermance Sr. seconded. Siobhan Jablesnik conducted a roll call that recorded affirmative votes from Hermance, John D. Masten, Politi, Donna Hopper Rein and Chairman Scalzo. The board approved the variances.
The board noted the change is primarily cosmetic and granted approval with no additional conditions. The decision was recorded at the meeting.
