Chair said the existing York unit is 29 years old and described the replacement: "The total amount is $304,220," including demolition, installation of an R‑454B air chiller, new line sets, electrical work, excavation and disposal of the old unit. Staff said the new in‑stock chiller could be available in roughly six weeks and that downtime during installation would likely be less than a week.
County staff recommended declaring an emergency so the county could procure the in‑stock unit without the delay that a standard procurement cycle could create. The board moved and approved the Resolve Tech proposal by voice vote; the chair said the county will seek pre‑approval of funding from the county council.
Why it matters: the detention center serves the county’s corrections operations, and a prolonged chiller failure would create substantial operational and safety risks. Commissioners asked staff to coordinate installation timing to minimize disruption to the facility.
