Hempfield supervisors approve demolition, road and park construction payments and award $2.18M paving contract

The board approved Pay Estimate #3 to Ritenour & Sons Construction for $84,825.00 to cover hazardous materials abatement and demolition of the former SCI Greensburg property. It also approved Pay Estimate #1 to A. Liberoni, Inc. for $54,455.45 for the Rugh Street Multi‑Modal Corridor Project.
Parks‑related work advanced with several items approved: Change Order #1 to CXT for the Hempfield Park Phase 3 Rehabilitation Project (+$5,000 to cover an extra crane) and Change Order #2 to KGD Contracting ($3,400) along with Pay Estimate #3 to KGD Contracting for $78,816.48. Township staff noted the CXT cost increase was specifically to cover crane delivery of the building.
For township roads, the board awarded the 2026 Hot‑Mix Superpave Program (Contract 1/2026) to Derry Construction Co. for $2,175,839.88 and awarded the Pavement Rejuvenator Program (Contract 2/2026) to Pavement Technology, Inc. for $107,780.40. The board also approved Pay Estimate #6 ($46,583.25) to Curry & Kepple, Inc. for Walden Court Phase II stormwater improvements.
All motions on these items carried 5‑0. Township Engineer Dan Schmitt reported the Walden Court project is nearing final restoration and seeding, weather permitting. The approvals move forward multiple capital projects in the township’s 2026 work program; specific timelines for final completion were not set at the meeting.
