Alfred board approves routine vouchers, reviews highway work and considers host community agreement for 34 MW solar project

At its June 12 meeting the Town Board approved multiple abstracts and vouchers across General, Highway and Special Funds and adopted several small budget transfers to cover celebrations and machinery/equipment accounts.
Highway Superintendent Bob Halsey reviewed recent and planned work: mowing and grading, shoulder repairs, and CHIPS projects for 2025 including 1.49 miles of McAndrews Road (one layer of oil and stone) and a one-mile cold-mix paving and oil-and-stone work on Randolph Road. Halsey also noted repairs to a 2010 Mack truck (new radiator) and ongoing negotiations over Western Star truck door repair costs.
The Dog Control Officer submitted a monthly report, issued tickets to Barrett's on Route 244 and said dog enumeration in town has not been done for many years. The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn at 8:30 p.m., carried 5-0.
Supervisor Fion MacCrea also introduced a draft Host Community Agreement for a proposed 34 MW 'Water Chestnut' solar project with a proposed community payment of $2,500 per megawatt. The minutes record '1st year $8,500' and note the IDA will determine PILOT details; Town Attorney Dwight Kanyuck said the agreement is consistent with county practice. The board asked members to review the draft and return it for discussion at the July meeting.
