The Town of Alfred Town Board voted on July 10 to refer the Malcolm Lane project to the Town Planning Board and, following local review, to the Allegany County Planning Board for additional consideration.
During the discussion, Supervisor Fion MacCrea explained that the developer’s proposed private road would need to be built to town specifications and deeded to the town. Resident Catherine Chambers and Kathy Benzaquin raised concerns that the new units could be used as short-term rentals rather than occupied by owners; Chambers asked whether the town could limit use as Airbnbs.
Board members did not adopt specific restrictions at the meeting; they directed that the Planning Board review the proposal and assess issues including road construction standards and potential land-use controls related to short-term rentals.
