Independence Township committee approves NJDOT resurfacing grants, raffle permits and liquor renewal in unanimous consent vote

The Independence Township Committee voted unanimously on July 8 to approve its consent agenda, authorizing two NJDOT resurfacing grant applications, issuing raffle permits, renewing liquor licenses and authorizing a public-works hiring process.
Resolutions 25-50 and 25-51 authorize the township to submit applications to the New Jersey Department of Transportation for the Townsbury Road Resurfacing project (MA-2026-00078) and Cemetery Road Resurfacing, Section 1 (MA-2026-00077). The resolutions identify Finelli Consulting Engineers, a division of UTRS, as the applicant agent and authorize the mayor and township clerk to sign any resulting grant agreements.
Resolution 25-53 authorizes two raffle permits (RA#2025-08 for a 50/50 and RA#2025-09 for a Tricky Tray) issued to Avidd Community Services of NJ, Inc., including a 50/50 raffle scheduled for Aug. 2, 2025. Resolution 25-54 approves renewal of 2025–2026 liquor licenses after receipt of required state clearance, listing a retail renewal for BRS Hackettstown LLC (license 2112-44-009-004). Resolution 25-55 authorizes the Township Administrator to proceed with hiring a Laborer/Truck Driver for the Department of Public Works at $25.35 per hour for a 40-hour workweek.
Mr. Pennington moved to approve the consent agenda; Mrs. Gesumaria seconded and the committee voted aye: Mrs. Gesumaria, Mr. Pennington, Mr. Stuber, Mrs. Kelsey and Mayor Giordano. Mr. Stuber separately moved to approve the bill list as presented; Mr. Pennington seconded and that motion also passed unanimously.
During public comment, Tony Russack asked about removal of dead ash trees along township roads and repairs needed to storm drains on the westbound side of Route 46; Cindy Neumann said she had a positive experience with JCP&L on tree removal. The committee adjourned at 7:33 p.m.
