Alpharetta council approves T‑SPLOST project list; Mayfield Road removed from tier 1

The Alpharetta City Council on June 1 approved the city’s T‑SPLOST 3 project list and will execute an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with Fulton County as required. Staff said the final list, submitted with council approval, moves the Kimbell Bridge Road sidewalk corridor (a roughly $5 million project) into tier 1 and reallocates some tier 2 funds toward AlphaLoop pedestrian crossings and connectivity projects.

Public works staff explained Mayfield Road was removed from the tier‑1 list after field reviews and because Fulton County could not provide reliable cost estimates for relocating three water vaults on the corridor; staff said relocation costs per vault could range widely and were unknown without design work. "It could be $25,000 per vault or a quarter of $1,000,000 per vault," staff said to illustrate the uncertainty, and council elected to focus tier‑1 dollars on projects with clearer scopes.

An attorney speaking for a nearby property owner, Ashlyn Hutton, urged the council not to include Mayfield Road in tier 1 without a traffic study and raised safety and historic‑preservation concerns. Staff responded that after walking the corridor and consulting Fulton County they chose to remove Mayfield Road from the tier‑1 submission.

Councilwoman Reeves moved to approve the T‑SPLOST 3 project list and noted the IGA with Fulton County will need to be executed in July 2026; council approved the motion unanimously.

Next steps: staff will proceed with the submission and pursue required IGAs and any design work for tier‑1 projects.
