The Pinckneyville City Council on June 24 placed Resolution No. R-2024-29 on file, authorizing an employment contract to hire Curtis Miller as a part-time fire chief. Commissioner Kevin B. Hicks introduced the resolution and Commissioner Sammy D. Peradotta seconded the motion to place it on file; the council voted unanimously to do so.
City Attorney Don Bigham told the council the contract in the meeting packet was a first draft and relayed that Mr. Miller proposed switching from an hourly arrangement to an annual salary of $24,000, payable monthly, for under 1,000 hours of work per year (including fire calls). Mr. Miller also proposed an $85 hourly rate for repair and maintenance on fire vehicles to be paid as an independent contractor. The minutes note that Mr. Miller will replace outgoing Fire Chief Jim Gielow, who served more than 40 years, including 15 years as chief.
Separately, the council accepted the resignation of Michael Spence from the Utility Department, effective July 5, 2024, and approved hiring Carly Heisner to update and digitize the city cemetery maps for future lot sales.
