The Leonard Park Committee met Sept. 10, 2024, at the Leonard Park Tea House and elected Member Mey Marple as vice-chair by unanimous committee vote. Chairperson Erin Heaton announced the vacancy and Marple expressed interest before the committee voted to install her in the role.
Superintendent of Recreation Kyle Thornton reported recent park maintenance work, including pruning near the Tea House and that only two DPW crew members are currently covering all parks; he said a candidate is identified as a potential replacement for a third crew member. Thornton also reported that a corner of the playground surface was damaged during mowing and is closed off, and that pool attendance was up over the summer; the pools are now closed for the season and staff will repair a late-season caulking leak as part of regular maintenance. Secretary Ann Ramone said she had "an excellent experience" as a pool member.
Under new business, Chairperson Heaton said the committee would postpone review of a Wall of Honor application because the applicant needs to provide additional information.
Chairperson Heaton moved to adjourn the meeting, Member Barbara Spadaccia seconded the motion, and the committee voted unanimously to adjourn at 7:48 p.m. The committee scheduled its next meeting for Oct. 8, 2024, at the Fox Senior Center.
