Mount Kisco commission flags park repairs, court upgrades and raises field‑use concerns with Bedford Central School District

At the Sept. 11, 2024 meeting, the Mount Kisco Recreation Commission reviewed multiple parks and facility items and discussed interlocal field‑use arrangements with the Bedford Central School District.
Superintendent Kyle Thornton said the parks crew is down one DPW parks worker and asked that the Village Manager ensure a Certified Pool Operator (CPO) is assigned or hired to maintain pool chemicals and systems. Thornton reported recent extensive tree work and identified several maintenance priorities: replacement or repair of wooden bridge planks and fixes to damaged playground surfacing.
Members of the pickleball community requested repainting of faint court lines; Thornton said he would obtain quotes and estimated the cost at about $3,000. Thornton also said the new Sketa reservation software will require prior online sign‑ups and that he will reacquaint himself with the system before broad rollout.
Thornton reported that 333 N. Bedford Road will receive bathroom facilities and said AYSO will be responsible for supplies and cleaning for that site. The Town Architect provided suggestions for a Tea House design, but Thornton and the commission said they were not impressed with the proposed look. Christine Dennett suggested adding lights and sponsor signage at the ball field in Fox Park to generate revenue because the park is not subject to Leonard Park deed restrictions.
On program promotion and field use, Thornton noted a longstanding mutual‑use understanding with the Bedford Central School District (BCSD) under which the district uses Mount Kisco fields and Mount Kisco may use district facilities. Thornton said the district has continued to use Town fields but has not consistently promoted Recreation Department programs when asked; he said the commission may restrict future BCSD field access if the district does not honor the mutual‑promotion practice.
No votes were taken on capital projects or field‑use privileges at the Sept. 11 meeting; Thornton said he will gather quotes and return with further details.
