Price City officials voted to apply for a $4.6 million Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) grant from FEMA to construct a debris and storm-water detention basin on Meads Wash north of Cedar Hills Drive.
Public Works Director Miles Nelson told the council the project could reduce flood and debris risks and that the grant application would include Direct Technical Assistance from the State Division of Emergency Management. "There is potential grant funding from FEMA to construct the flood retention basin project on Mead’s Wash," Nelson said, adding that additional design work is needed before construction could begin.
Councilmember Russell Seeley moved to approve submittal of the BRIC application; Councilmember Tina Urbanik seconded and the motion carried.
Nelson said the basin would require further engineering and planning work for site-specific designs, and that the grant—if awarded—would fund construction rather than routine maintenance. The council did not set a construction schedule; Nelson described the next steps as completing design work and finalizing the application with state support.
The item was discussed during the council's general business portion and was approved by voice vote. The council’s approval only authorized applying for the grant; the city must complete design and secure any matching funds or additional approvals if the BRIC award is made.
