Dallas approves $12,800 in event sponsorships, including $5,000 for Fourth‑of‑July fireworks

The Town of Dallas Board of Aldermen on May 14 approved a $12,800 budget amendment to fund community event sponsorships, including a $5,000 contribution toward the July 4th fireworks display and a $5,000, one‑year sponsorship for a Dallas chapter of the Boys & Girls Club.

The amendment (REC‑002) moves $12,800 into the Recreation Department Town Events line item to cover the town’s commitment to the fireworks, the Boys & Girls Club sponsorship and $2,800 for portable bathrooms needed at two summer concerts. Alderman Cearley moved to approve the amendment; Alderwoman Thomas seconded and the motion carried unanimously with all six elected officials present voting yes.

Exhibit materials accompanying the request show projected gross costs for the July 4 event of $9,131 (band, stage, staffing and services) and note that a prior discussion at the April 23 work session led the board to commit $5,000 toward the fireworks. The town’s prior action at the April 9 meeting also recorded smaller sponsorships (a $300 Law Enforcement Torch Run sponsorship and $301 for Cotton Ginning Days), which were reflected in an earlier budget amendment (REC‑001).

The board also approved a $5,000, one‑year sponsorship to support start‑up operations of a Dallas chapter of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Gaston, with the town requiring financial statements and written verification that town funds would be used in compliance with North Carolina General Statute §160A‑456(a)(2).

The board took the action as part of its New Business agenda and adjourned at 6:56 p.m.
