Union City approves Renaissance grants, records UCVFD loan repayment and moves funds to higher‑yield account

Union City Borough Council on June 25 approved recommendations for the Renaissance grant program, accepted an ambulance‑loan repayment from the Union City Volunteer Fire Department (UCVFD), and authorized a bank-account change to capture higher interest.
Manager Cindy Wells reported the borough received a $100,000 ECGRA Renaissance grant earlier and that six Renaissance grant applications totaling $27,127.65 were under review. Council approved four applications totaling $17,675 for the 2023/2024 grant period, leaving a balance of $750.49 in the current grant fund; two applications totaling $9,452.65 will carry to the 2024/2025 grant period. The motion was moved by Councilor Joyce, seconded by Councilor Osborn, and carried unanimously.
Manager Wells also told council that the UCVFD repaid its full ambulance loan of $59,250. Council approved opening a new PLGIT Checking & Prime account and transferring approximately $140,000 from the Capital Equipment account at Northwest (reported to be paying below market rates) to the PLGIT account, with the expectation of higher interest earnings. The motion to open the PLGIT account and transfer funds was moved by Councilor Kerns, seconded by Councilor Steadman, and carried unanimously.
Council authorized posting removed playground equipment from Southwest Park for sale on Municibid. Staff were directed to implement the approved transfers and to process the grant awards according to the recommendations.
