Senior Citizens Commission approves minutes, welcomes new member and reviews summer programming

The Senior Citizens Commission on June 3, 2025 approved its Dec. 3, 2024 minutes, heard a municipal agent staffing update and reviewed a slate of spring and summer programs.
Chair Paula Friez called the regular meeting to order at 12:03 p.m. and commissioners listed in attendance included Cheryl Udin, Leslie Shea, Pat Niewinski and alternate Corenda Haugh; Director of Senior and Social Services Carrie Concatelli also attended. Corrine O’Brien is recorded as board clerk on the minutes.
The commission unanimously approved the Dec. 3, 2024 minutes after a motion from Commissioner Cheryl Udin and a second from Commissioner Leslie Shea.
In a municipal agent report, Carrie Concatelli, director of Senior and Social Services, said the commission’s transportation program gained capacity when “a new driver was hired at the end of May.” The minutes do not specify the driver’s name or start date beyond “end of May.”
Under old business the commission noted the March 4, 2025 meeting had been cancelled and reviewed recent programs. Friez said yoga classes draw about 20 to 30 seniors each week and described the Windham Tech lunch as very well attended.
Members welcomed newly appointed commissioner Anna Spencer; several commissioners expressed pleasure at adding her to the board. The minutes record remembrances for two longtime participants, Helen Winkler and Pat Morianos, the latter a past chair, with members sharing memories.
The commission reviewed upcoming activities: May outings listed in the minutes include a trip to Oakridge Dairy Farm with lunch, an Italian Pranzo lunch, a trip to Mohegan Casino and an Iceland presentation. June events highlighted in the record include a senior cookout scheduled for June 19, 2025 at 12:00 p.m., a visit to The Baroness at the Playhouse on Park, and a trip to Lavender Pond Farm with lunch.
The meeting adjourned at 12:39 p.m. after a motion from Leslie Shea, seconded by Cheryl Udin; the motion passed unanimously. The commission set its next regular meeting for Sept. 9, 2025.
