Buchanan County board approves claims and contract renewals, reappoints Veterans Commission member and hears Habitat for Humanity presentation

At the May 18 meeting, the Buchanan County Board of Supervisors approved routine financial and administrative items and heard a community presentation.
The Board approved employee claims of $1,590.94 and vendor claims recorded in the packet ($379,620.60 recorded on the motion line; the detailed claims list in the record shows a printed total of $382,863.16). Auditor Kris Wilgenbusch presented the monthly employee health trust report, which the Board approved after discussion.
Wilgenbusch also presented a three-year renewal with Cost Advisory, a contract to develop cost-allocation plans that assist the county in obtaining indirect-cost reimbursements from the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services. The annual cost of the renewal is $4,450.00; the Board approved the contract by motion.
Other actions included approval of a fireworks permit for Gary Peiffer; filing two manure management plans (Gregory Becker and Pilot Grove Farm, Inc.); and reappointing Cole Passick to the Veterans Commission for a three-year term effective July 1. The Board also set a public hearing related to Jonas Yoder. Motions on these items were recorded and carried by unanimous vote unless otherwise noted in the record.
The Board heard a presentation from Brenda Schmidke, Rural Outreach Coordinator, and John Martin, Home Repair Manager, representing Habitat for Humanity about their programs; no action was taken on the presentation. Following additional Board and commission updates and public comments, the Board adjourned at 9:48 a.m.
