The Drive‑In Site Utilization Committee (DISUC) in Yarmouth voted to recommend that the Select Board authorize the sale of engraved boardwalk planks to help fund Riverwalk Park, and reviewed recent progress on Phase 1 work and procurement for Phase 2.
The recommendation sets plank pricing at $350 for individuals, $450 for nonprofits and $550 for businesses, permits names only (no logos or web addresses), and reserves the Town’s right to reject any requested engraving. Town Planner Kathy Williams told the committee she is exploring using the town’s OpenGov permitting system to facilitate online sales and to determine whether the fees would be documented as tax‑deductible donations.
Committee members discussed project timing and contracts. The DISUC reviewed the Planner’s June 13 memo and noted that Phase 1 work has been awarded to Robert B. Our Marine Division. The group discussed bidding for Phase 2 restrooms and the overall project budget; staff did not set a final timetable in the meeting and said procurement steps remain.
Members also debated park naming and naming rights. The DISUC agreed that the Select Board retains formal authority to name the park and that ‘‘Riverwalk Park’’ has been used as a descriptive placeholder. The committee recommended the Select Board may wish to solicit public name proposals; DISUC offered to review submissions and provide guidance. Members discussed the Select Board’s existing naming‑rights policy and whether a nonprofit, such as Community Visions, could be used to collect donations; the committee noted a nonprofit arrangement would be a private fundraising approach and that the Select Board’s interest would guide next steps.
Other topics reviewed in the Planner’s memo included updating the event policy, siting public art and artist shanties, and selecting a kayak vendor. Jim Saben said he would contact the Town of Dennis to learn about fee practices for a kayak vendor on Bass River. Per committee consensus, Kathy Williams will prepare a draft memo to the Select Board for Saben’s review.
The committee approved routine minutes (including March 27, 2023) by unanimous votes and adjourned at 5:14 p.m. The DISUC plans to brief the Select Board on June 25, 2024.
