Buchanan and Murdock explained what types of images the cameras capture and outlined the legal and procedural requirements needed to query the Flock system. They told the commissioners that searches of the system are audited regularly and emphasized that access is subject to oversight. The board requested that the sheriff's office push out public education materials clarifying what Flock does and does not do.
Commissioners also noted complaints from residents who reported seeing a Cheyenne County sheriff's vehicle in and around Burlington; the sheriff's office said the deputy involved is still in the market for a house in the area. The briefing did not result in a change in policy; commissioners asked for outreach to improve public understanding of the camera system and auditing practices.
