Public Health Director Kelli Adamson told the Cheyenne County Board of Public Health on May 19 that Colorado has reported two cases of hantavirus and clarified the strain is not transmissible between humans. She also noted increased Ebola cases in Uganda but said none have been reported in the United States.
Adamson, who attended the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment executive director conference in Denver last week, said the agency is expecting further budget cuts next fiscal year and that state‑level emergency plans are being updated. The board accepted the financial report before moving to program updates.
During updates, Kit Carson Superintendent Myles Johnson said a local individual is interested in filling a school nurse position and will notify Adamson when a decision is made. The board also discussed grant hours for Grant Coordinator Autumn Pelton; Adamson said she will invite Pelton to the next meeting to discuss employee retention and grant staffing.
The public health session adjourned at 9:37 a.m.; Adamson and Office Manager Kendra Cuellar left shortly afterward. The board did not take regulatory action on any of the items discussed and requested continued monitoring of communicable‑disease trends and budget developments.
