Sharyland ISD board certifies May 2 bond and trustee election results, administers oaths and elects Hector Rivera as president

The Sharyland Independent School District Board of Trustees on May 12, 2026, unanimously approved orders canvassing the May 2 bond and trustee election returns, declared two trustees elected, administered their oaths and completed a routine reorganization of board officers.

At a public meeting, the board recorded vote totals for three bond propositions from the special election held May 2. The board’s published canvass showed Proposition A received 1,334 votes in favor and 2,049 against; Proposition B received 1,315 in favor and 2,062 against; and Proposition C received 1,069 in favor and 2,306 against. A motion to approve the canvass was moved by Leo Seba and seconded by David Keith; the motion carried 7–0.

The trustees then canvassed the results of the May 2 trustee election. For Place 1 (total 3,277 votes), Leonora Garcia received 1,139 votes, Renee Morales 536 and Megan Sullivan 1,602; for Place 2 (total 3,225 votes), Ysidro Quintero received 1,097 votes and Pedro Serdad 2,128. The board declared Megan Sullivan elected to Place 1 and Julio Serra elected to Place 2. A motion to approve the trustee canvass was moved and seconded and passed unanimously, 7–0.

Judge Carol Bauskas administered the oath of office to Megan Sullivan. After being sworn in, Sullivan said briefly, “Let’s just get to work.” Later, Julio Serra took his oath as trustee for Place 2 and addressed the board and audience with a longer statement emphasizing his priorities for students and the district, saying, “my ideals in life is kids first,” and expressing commitment to the community.

Following the oaths, the board conducted its reorganization of officers. The meeting record shows nominations and votes to fill assistant secretary and secretary positions and to set the officer rotation. Nominations that appear in the record were approved by unanimous votes (7–0). The board voted to place Julio Serra back into the vice president rotation. Dr. Noe Oliveira nominated Hector Rivera to serve as board president; the nomination was seconded and approved, making Rivera the board’s president for the coming term.

All formal motions recorded in the meeting — including the canvasses and officer reorganizations — carried by unanimous votes as reflected in the minutes. The meeting adjourned at 6:28 p.m.
