The Auburndale City Commission on May 19 approved first-reading ordinances to amend the Future Land Use Map and the Official Zoning Map for a roughly 2.44-acre parcel adjacent to the Duke Osprey Energy Center.
Community Development Director Julie Womble said the property was annexed into the city and the applicant requested changing the Polk County Future Land Use classification of Business Park Center-1 (BPC-1) to the City of Auburndale’s Business Park Center and establishing Light Industrial (LI) zoning. Womble said the parcel is consistent with adjacent industrial development and the city’s Comprehensive Plan.
City Attorney Frederick J. Murphy Jr. read Ordinance No. 1823 (Future Land Use Map amendment) and Ordinance No. 1824 (Official Zoning Map amendment) by title; Commissioner Keith Cowie moved approval of the Future Land Use amendment and Commissioner Jordan Helms seconded; Vice Mayor Alex Cam moved the zoning amendment and Commissioner Bill Sterling seconded. Both motions passed unanimously on first reading. Staff said both ordinances will return for second and final reading on June 2, 2025.
There was no public comment during the hearing.
