City staff said the appointment covers interim duties while the previous city manager, Charlie George, continues his recovery. Staff described Glisson's return to interim duties and noted the interim manager position reduces the former manager's $200,000 salary to a $175,000 rate for this appointment. The agreement includes a condition that the commission cannot terminate his city employment role in a way that removes him from interim duties without a 4-of-5 commission vote; otherwise he would revert to his prior deputy or director role.
"This is an agreement to employ Jeremiah Glisson as the city's interim city manager," staff said while presenting the item and noted the appointment is retroactive to June 3. Commissioner comments recognized Glisson's willingness to step into duties and expressed support for Charlie George's recovery.
The commission approved the employment agreement by roll call, 5-0. Staff also announced a special meeting on Thursday, June 20 at 5:00 p.m. to continue city-manager-related business, including a report from the city's search firm.
