The Forney Independent School District Board of Trustees opened its meeting with music and student recognitions, accepted community donations and approved a resolution related to district-owned land.
A district communications representative announced a donation from the Griffith PTO to support Griffin Elementary; the transcript records the amount as "$6,40.99," which appears garbled in the meeting record and was accepted by voice vote. Separately, the 40 Education Foundation presented a $100,000 gift from founder George Brown for a hands-on barn/farm project at Newberry Elementary; the board moved to accept the donation and approved it by voice vote.
Board members spent substantial time recognizing top graduating students, dozens of associate-degree earners via Dallas College dual-enrollment, Level 1 career-technical certificates (vocational nursing, HVAC, welding, cosmetology), UIL state qualifiers in art and theater, esports and other extracurricular achievements, and district teachers and retirees. Administrators noted that more than 60 students received associate degrees and more than 100 students completed concurrent programs through Dallas College partnerships.
In financial reporting, district finance staff reported investments of $304.4 million on hand at the end of March 2026, an average investment yield of 3.4–3.8% and $3.1 million in interest earned for the quarter. The tax collection report through March 2026 showed $129 million collected on a $133 million levy (about 96.6% collection rate versus a five-year average of 97.4%).
On a separate agenda item, the board approved a resolution authorizing removal of a tract of district-owned land from the City of Dallas extraterritorial jurisdiction under Chapter 42 of the Texas Local Government Code and delegated authority to the superintendent to proceed with required applications and documents.
The board also announced upcoming calendar items (special call meeting, last day of school, graduation dates and budget adoption schedule) and adjourned the meeting.
Next steps: administration will provide photos and take follow-up steps for accepted donations and will file ETJ removal paperwork as delegated.
