Poquoson council holds Memorial Day ceremony, reads names of 18 fallen residents

Hartley listed service details, units, dates of death and burial sites spanning World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and recent conflicts. Among the honorees she named were Private Robert Reed Holloway (died 1918), Marine Private John Ray Forest (killed in World War II), and Lance Corporal Kyle William Brown (killed in Iraq in 2006). Hartley said she was "deeply honored and humbled to present" the biographies and concluded the roll call by saying, "They shall not be forgotten." The mayor and council members thanked Hartley for the presentation.
The mayor also acknowledged the American Legion Holloway Post 273 and local civic organizations for their role in Memorial Day events and pointed to a 250th‑anniversary flag display between city hall and the public safety building that will remain through July 4. The council’s formal memorial was followed by routine business, including approval of minutes and other agenda items.
The ceremony emphasized local remembrance and civic participation; no council action was taken as part of the Memorial Day presentation.
