Pocahontas County supervisors review ARPA options, favor cloud alarm system for county buildings

Dereck Hebert, the county’s IT staff, told the Board the county had received a third vendor quote and that two viable options remained to address courthouse and county building security. He said Iowa Fire would cover only the Courthouse, while a cloud-based system from Lynx Systems could be used at all county buildings and would allow the county to "eliminate panic buttons and utilize keys on a keyboard for $5,450.00/year." Hebert said he would check additional hardware costs for the fire system and noted Lynx can provide mass notifications.
Auditor Nita Hinrickson told supervisors she had reached out to two companies to get quotes for painting the courthouse rotunda; she said those estimates are expected this week. Hinrickson also said Tate Schmeling reviewed an invoice related to the Law Enforcement Center and was able to lower the cost; she will forward that invoice to John Hansen so it is paid from bond proceeds.
Hinrickson said Brian Reis had outlined options for spending remaining ARPA funds and that, after painting quotes are received, the Board would consider other ARPA uses. She said she would contact contractors for quotes on siding, a garage door and windows for the building located east of the new Law Enforcement Center.
Supervisor Louis Stauter asked whether a public storm shelter could be established once the Sheriff’s Office moves to the new facility; Hinrickson said she would check with Steve Nelson about available space at the Law Enforcement Center.
No formal allocation of ARPA funds or final vendor approval was recorded at the Dec. 3 meeting; staff were directed to collect the remaining price quotes and return the information to the Board for future consideration.
