"I am this close to having my nonprofit up and running and those that know me know I've been a mentor that I've been advocate for youth uh and the community so to the council before I launch anything ... what programs do you have for our youth in the city?" the resident asked, noting she did not see local activities and wanted direction on where to direct outreach.
Councilors and staff responded that some programs that serve at‑risk youth receive referrals through the court system and that certain program funding flows through county channels, which can make town‑level visibility of services unclear. One speaker referenced about $100,000 going to programs for at‑risk youth in the county in the previous year; councilors encouraged the resident to follow up with staff to identify existing providers and referral pathways.
During the same portion of the meeting, the council announced the town had acquired a parcel identified in the transcript as "Silver Tan Park" for town ownership and staff suggested the park could be considered for amenities such as a splash pad or restroom upgrades. Staff noted the Wadesboro park project fund had been suggested to support splash‑pad and restroom upgrades and that the Greenway project fund held approximately $55,000 to pursue trail connectivity with regional corridors.
