Wadesboro police report two shootings, one quick arrest and new canine on the way

Police Chief Jason told the Wadesboro Town Council that the department had "a challenging week" with two shootings and that officers, with help from the county sheriff's office and the SBI, secured an arrest in one matter within roughly 12 hours.
"Last week was a challenging week ... we had two shootings ... within roughly 12 hours or so we were able to make an arrest in one of those cases because of these folks back here and the assistance of the ason County Sheriff's Office and the SBI," Chief Jason said. He added that the department is "working on closing that one very soon as well."
The chief said the department made 30 arrests during the reporting period and that they "responded to 1,4 calls for service," a figure that is unclear in the transcript and needs confirmation from department records. He described plans to deploy a new dual‑purpose canine that "within the next six weeks will be certified and on the road," which the chief said will assist with tracking, article searches and building searches and will help reduce crime.
Councilors followed up about prior complaints of speeding on Morgan Street; Chief Jason reported enforcement there led to a stop in which an occupant had an outstanding warrant and was arrested, while other contacts resulted in warnings rather than citations. The chief emphasized ongoing patrol and nighttime business checks to improve visibility and crime prevention.
Chief Jason recognized an officer selected as officer of the month and underscored a commitment by the department to continue community policing and investigations. The council thanked officers for their service and noted outreach efforts where officers had contacted a young community member who previously raised concerns and is expected to return to present a proposal for storage space for youth activities.
The council requested continued updates on the active investigations and scheduling for the canine's certification.
