Lexington 3 superintendent highlights spring events, honors two students for perfect statewide scores

The Lexington County School District 3 superintendent used the board's April 21 meeting to recap spring activities and recognize student achievements.
Dr. Atkinson praised recent student productions — including Phantom of the Opera and The Little Mermaid Jr. — noted community support (the Rotary Club donated about $3,000 and the Leesville merchant association about $900 earmarked for field trips) and described a successful Special Olympics day and other extracurricular honors. He announced that online student registration for new and returning students (4K through 11th grade) opens April 22 and emphasized that athletic forms for grades 7–12 will transfer into the new system.
Mrs. Taylor recognized two Lexington 3 students, Jason Fila and Sally Paradise, for earning maximum raw scores on the spring 2025 SC Ready assessment. The district will present each student with a letter from State Superintendent Ellen Weaver and a yard sign the students requested to commemorate their accomplishment.
Dr. Atkinson also listed upcoming events and dates: picture day and spring concerts, prom on Saturday, academic award ceremonies, and graduation on May 22. He thanked staff and community partners for supporting students and noted district plans for retiree recognition and other end‑of‑year activities.
The board heard the report during its regular monthly meeting; no formal action was required on the items Dr. Atkinson reviewed.
