City staff member Jana Stewart briefed the council on the municipal code provisions that allow up to 20 qualified nonprofit sellers to conduct fireworks retail sales during a limited seasonal window and said the city received 19 applications for 2026. "Because 2026 is a special year for these United States — it’s our 250th anniversary — we are requesting an exceptional extension of the period of sales from June 30th rather than July 1st to July 4th," Stewart said.
Councilmembers moved and unanimously approved the one‑time exception. Staff said the finance department is reviewing nonprofit applications and will report back in June with authorized sellers and locations.
What happens next: staff will finalize the list of qualified nonprofit sellers and publish locations and hours; the sales extension applies only to the 2026 celebration and was approved as a one‑time exception.
