At its May 21 meeting, the Jennings County Board of Zoning Appeals approved several routine zoning requests and a temporary home‑business permit.
The board approved a 10‑foot variance for Tina Kopetsky to place a single‑wide mobile home at 5285 East Pike Street after Kopetsky said the new unit would occupy a site where an older trailer had been. No neighbors objected and the board approved the motion by voice vote.
Betty Bledsoe of Miracle by the Dozens LLC received approval to place an 8‑by‑40 shipping container for storage near an existing barn at East Private Road 450 South in North Vernon; Bledsoe told the board the container is on gravel, was welded and repainted, and neighbors expressed no objection provided the container is kept presentable.
Dorothy Wilson was granted a 25‑foot variance to place a utility shed at 718 Hoosier Street; Wilson said a concrete slab remains from a prior structure and a neighbor reported no objection. The board approved the variance by voice vote.
Valerie Massey received a special use permit to operate a home‑based wellness and yoga business at 71 Henry Street; the board granted the permit for six months with review if complaints arise, noting the property provides eight off‑street parking spaces and the location previously hosted a beauty salon.
Walter Grills' request to split and reconfigure parcels at 1920 West Brownstown Road and to assign a garage to the front parcel received approval; Grills said he owns both parcels, does not intend to sell the home parcel and has worked with surveyors and contractors, and staff (Chad) was asked to follow up on the survey details.
The board approved the minutes of the April 16 meeting at the start of the session. An agenda item for Regina Max (utility shed at 5110 West County Road 400 North in Cecil) was not heard because the applicant was absent; the board said she must reapply or appear at a future hearing or the structure could become a code violation.
The meeting closed with routine administrative directions for staff to prepare recorded documents and follow up on surveyed easements where shared driveways are involved. The board adjourned after taking no further business.
