"Accept a motion to adopt resolution 26003, which is calling and ordering a general election to be held on May 2nd, 2026," the council was told; the motion passed by a five-to-nothing vote. Council then approved the motion to appoint election officers without opposition.
Council members noted the timing will allow the city election to coincide with the local independent school district elections, reducing duplicate travel for voters. Kelly said the building for the polling location has already been put on the schedule. Council members encouraged prospective candidates to pick up a packet — staff said the filing packet deadline is Friday and that five candidates had already filed or were interested.
Next steps: city staff will finalize polling logistics and publish filing and ballot instructions. If additional scheduling is required, staff said they will funnel requests through the city secretary and inform residents of any changes.
