La Grange holds public hearing on state grant for new restrooms at La Grange Park

The La Grange Town Board opened and closed a required public hearing Feb. 18 on a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application for a new restroom building at La Grange Park's baseball complex.
Sandy Washburn, the town's parks and recreation director, described the existing restroom as a small, aging block building that houses the park's chlorination system and currently provides one stall for each gender. She said the proposed project would replace that structure with a multi-stall facility modeled on similar units used in nearby municipalities, effectively doubling capacity and providing four private stalls so that gendered lineups would not create delays during tournaments.
"We are looking to earn a grant through the community development block grant to be awarded for a new bathroom building at La Grange Park," Washburn said, adding the application deadline is March 3 and that the maximum award for a municipal project of this sort is $125,000.
Resident John Canessa of Titusville Heights spoke in support, saying the bathroom upgrade would be "greatly appreciated" for weekends when hundreds of players and family members use the park. Town staff also noted two letters submitted in favor of the project were entered into the record.
The hearing was opened and closed by motion; no board vote authorizing the application was recorded on the transcript during the hearing beyond holding the public hearing itself. Town staff said the grant application would proceed on the stated timeline.
Next step: the town will finalize materials for the CDBG application ahead of the March 3 deadline and will include the public-hearing record and letters of support.
