West Milton council approves emergency wastewater pump and $110,000 generator installation

At its Jan. 6, 2026 meeting, the West Milton council approved two infrastructure resolutions: an emergency purchase to replace a 20-horsepower variable-frequency pump at the wastewater treatment plant and authorization for a new municipal-building generator and automatic transfer switch.
Miss Brush introduced resolution CN-26-01 for the wastewater plant, explaining staff had located a compatible pump and requested a waiver of the formal quote process (ordinance 33.18 section 3) because the replacement was time-sensitive. The resolution authorizes purchase from Swigger Electric of Englewood, Ohio, for an amount not to exceed $28,500; the council approved the purchase and authorized the director of service to execute required documents.
Council then considered CN-26-02, approving Garber Electrical Contractors to supply parts, subcontract a gas-line installation, and install an automatic transfer switch and generator for the municipal building at 701 S. Miami St. The resolution waives formal bidding under the village codified ordinances and sets the project cost at not to exceed $110,000. Staff said the project had been discussed at a prior workshop and described the generator as necessary to provide backup power for emergency operations.
Both resolutions passed on roll-call votes. Council members also noted the village will increase spare parts and backup capacity at the wastewater plant to reduce the risk of repeat failures while the village transitions to a new treatment plant.
