At its workshop session the Town Board of Mamakating approved a set of routine resolutions and motions and set follow-up steps on a high-cost security proposal for park buildings.
The board approved budget modifications and an amendment to the draft property maintenance code, which targets unkempt yards, high grass and garbage. The Supervisor introduced the property maintenance item as a response to recurring nuisance complaints and said the board would start the public hearing to hear community feedback. The board closed that hearing without public speakers and later approved the amendment by motion.
The board approved a recurring monthly agreement to switch the Town Park’s internet and phone service to Spectrum, at a reported monthly charge of $264.83, to support new park cameras and improved Wi‑Fi. The board also approved a letter of support for the ONW Rail Trail Association seeking additional state and federal funding for trail projects that cross nearby town borders.
Regarding park operations, the board accepted a resignation from Katrina Walinsky from the MLDC and approved increases to non-resident pool season-pass fees (single non-resident from $200 to $250; family non-resident from $450 to $500) while keeping resident fees unchanged. The board discussed, but did not finalize, a vendor quote of $12,785 to install an electronic door-fob system at two park buildings; members agreed to table that procurement for further research and pricing comparisons before proceeding.
Motions on the agenda were moved and seconded by board members (mover/second recorded in meeting minutes where provided) and passed with 'all in favor' for the listed items. The board also reviewed highway and parks reports, noted grants and summer programming at Meek’s, and heard public comments on planning-board staffing and exit 114 advocacy; a staff member from a state senator’s office confirmed higher‑level engagement on exit 114 concerns.
The board adjourned and scheduled its next meeting for the 18th.
