Cornell field‑work class to assist Town of Hector with comprehensive plan update

The board heard a brief introduction from a Cornell University professor who said his field‑work class will help update Hector’s 2015 comprehensive plan.
"I’m actually full‑time professor, Department of Regional Planning," the professor said, describing 35 years of municipal planning experience and a class model in which students work semester‑long on a local planning project. He said the course will bring roughly 10 students to the town to assist with documenting changes and developing plan recommendations.
The board welcomed the assistance as a way to add planning capacity for a small municipality; the professor said much of the work is documentation and community assessment and that the class has supported similar efforts across the Finger Lakes region.
The professor (who was invited after town staff contacted Cornell) said more detail will be provided at an upcoming board meeting when students and a fuller project scope can be presented.
