St. Ann police praised after rapid response to school threat; officers honored by board

At the Oct. 7 meeting Dr. Chris Kilbright, superintendent of the Ritner School District, publicly thanked the St. Ann Police Department for its role in a rapid response to a recent cyber threat and for investigative work that identified and led to the arrest of a suspect. Kilbright said the department’s detectives and school resource officers were instrumental in quickly identifying the local actor in one incident and ensuring student safety.
City officials described a high-profile incident: officials said a 17-year-old posted a threatening image and that detectives and deputy chief Ravens located and apprehended the suspect within a short time; a loaded semi-automatic firearm was recovered. The U.S. Attorney’s Office adopted the case, officials said, and has pursued charges related to the threat and to actions by the suspect’s parent. The board presented letters of accommodation and small gift cards to the officers involved and promised a future public briefing with remarks from the U.S. attorney.
Chief Jimnez and other officials said the coordinated response across the school district and police detectives helped prevent harm and demonstrated interagency cooperation. Board members commended the officers and thanked school district leaders for the partnership that aided the investigation.
