Commission approves first readings for meter-tampering ordinance and raises purchasing threshold

Ordinance 2024-06 amends chapter 74 (utilities) to create section 74-14 regarding meter tampering; the public hearing was opened, no members of the public spoke, and the commission approved the first reading and set the public hearing for July 15, 2024.
Ordinance 2024-07 updates purchasing procedures (section 2-78) to raise the purchasing threshold discussed in the code from $25,000 to $100,000. Commissioners emphasized that approvals by the finance director, city attorney and city manager remain required, keeping internal checks intact. Commissioners noted peer cities have adjusted thresholds and that the measure is within the commission’s discretion; the ordinance passed on first reading.
