The Clewiston City Commission on June 17 approved Resolution 2024-039, which updates portions of the city’s personnel policy manual, and voted to have staff return with a complete rewrite for commission review within 90 days.
Several commissioners said they had not had time to review all changes and requested the new HR manager and department directors provide input before final adoption of broader changes. Commissioners discussed specific topics such as leave policies, travel, social media protocols and safety exceptions (for example, allowing emergency rides in city vehicles in limited circumstances). One commissioner said much of the packet represented incremental verbiage updates that should be followed by a thorough legal and director-level review; another asked that a date certain be added for the next review.
Commissioner Gardner moved to adopt the resolution; the motion was seconded and carried. The commission then agreed on a separate motion to have a rewritten personnel policy brought back for formal review within 90 days. Staff and the city attorney will coordinate to produce the redrafted manual for the commission’s consideration.
