Village Board approves payables, closes out West Fourth Street project; treasurer reports remaining funds to spend by 2026

Arion told the board that engineering invoices for treatment‑plant work are ramping up and that the motor fuel tax and the community center currently show negative year‑to‑date balances but are within budgeted expectations. Arion reported cash and equivalents as of Jan. 31 as stated in the packet: 23,867,000 (as reported by staff).
The board approved payables for the period totaling approximately $61,200, which included a $200 credit memo and top items the treasurer highlighted such as a county treasurer entry, a repair by Dort Electric, and water‑related charges and Medicare distributions. A roll‑call vote was recorded with affirmative responses from the trustees present and the motion carried.
The board also approved a final payment of $4,522.50 to IMEG/Grant Construction to complete the West Fourth Street project. Board member Steve described the payment as the final tie‑up for the project and said the street is "nice to drive now," noting positive public comments about the work. A roll‑call vote on the payment recorded affirmative votes from trustees present and the motion carried.
The mayor reminded trustees that the council previously authorized $3,500 in support for Captain Movich's attendance at the FBI Academy in March; those funds will be placed on a prepaid card separate from the period payables.
In committee updates, trustees said construction at the Legends subdivision is progressing despite recent weather, staff completed training on a new inspections software package with a planned go‑live around March 1, and the village plans to recommend a new audit firm to address prior timeliness issues.
During public comment, a resident invited the community to a mental‑health awareness event at the Camden Center on March 11 featuring the National Association for Mental Health (NAMI) and asked to place flyers in village locations; the board approved placing flyers. The resident also asked how many hours the mayor and trustees work; the mayor said hours vary by week and emphasized trustees serve as volunteers and have not had a pay raise since the administration of former Mayor Joel Brunsville.
