Archer Lodge council members approved recruitment materials and a selection process at their Oct. 20, 2025, work session as staff prepared to launch a town administrator search.
Lee Worley, who led the presentation, said the brochure will be used as the town’s primary advertisement and that staff planned to publish the vacancy the following day. He described the applicant intake as a cover letter and resume only, with additional documents collected later in the interview process: “That brochure will also be the basis of any other types of advertisement that we do,” he said.
Staff described a two‑stage selection approach. Minimum requirements will be applied first (the job description’s stated bachelor’s degree and municipal management experience), with preferred qualifications (a master’s degree or ICMA credential) earning bonus points. Staff said they would provide each council member a private spreadsheet and a link to folders containing every candidate’s submitted materials so members can independently review applications ahead of candidate selection.
Council discussed whether county government experience should be considered equivalent to municipal experience; several members supported widening the pool to include local (county or municipal) government applicants rather than strictly municipal experience. Staff also cited the town of Benson as a comparator: Benson received about 48 applications and roughly 20 met minimum qualifications; Benson’s posted salary range for a related position was reported as roughly $130,000 to $150,000.
The council set a tentative calendar: staff will advertise immediately and aim to deliver candidate materials for the council’s review around Nov. 14; the council targeted a special meeting for interviews on Dec. 13, with the goal of identifying the top two candidates after that session and planning second‑round interviews if needed.
Next steps: staff will post the brochure and begin outreach, correct minor spreadsheet calculation issues demonstrated in the meeting, and provide council members secure access to candidate folders and the evaluation spreadsheet.
