Amy Morales, president of the Catalina Foothills School District Foundation, presented the foundation's semiannual donation at the May 12 board meeting and thanked volunteers, business sponsors and parent donors for supporting teachers and students.
"When we invest in educators, we invest in students," Morales said, describing the foundation's growth in board membership and fundraising. Board member Gina Meert accepted the contribution on behalf of the governing board.
Superintendent Dr. Denise Bartlett then highlighted a string of student successes across arts, STEM and athletics: CFHS choirs earned gold at the Forum Music Festival and individual students received recognition for a duet and an original composition; the CFHS Science Olympiad team finished third at state with multiple top finishes; symphonic strings and concert orchestra earned state superior ratings at the ABODA festival; a Keys research internship selection and chess state championships were also noted. The high school boys tennis team won a state title.
The meeting also featured a deep‑learning showcase for the CFHS guitar program, including a video produced by Foothills Films and remarks from the program teacher (Mr. Good) and participating students on how practice and the learning environment contributed to skill development.
Board members thanked students, staff and the foundation and invited the students to take a photo with the board.
