The Wall School District 51-5 board voted to create a new proprietary accounting fund (Fund 159) intended to support career and technical education (CTE) projects, including the mini home and shed projects produced by students.
Administrators presented an accounting plan showing how auction proceeds, donated equipment and any future grant match funds would be tracked separately so the program could become self-sustaining. Staff said they had reviewed the proposal with the district auditors prior to the meeting.
Board members discussed whether students could have a role in managing or tracking the fund as part of applied finance coursework; staff said student involvement was a possibility to explore in future years but likely not for the initial rollout. A $10,000 local donation from the Greater Wall Foundation was cited as seed support for the program, and administrators said they had applied for a $195,000 state grant that would require match funding; the district will notify the board if the grant is awarded.
A motion to approve the creation of CTE Projects Fund 159 passed on a voice vote. Staff will move forward with the accounting setup and return to the board with implementation details as the fund receives revenue and as auctions occur.
The district also discussed marketing and online bidding options to broaden participation in future auctions.
